Lewis Hamilton is optimistic about the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after feeling he has “figured out” how to drive his Ferrari during the Bahrain GP.
After a disappointing qualifying, Hamilton finished fifth in Bahrain, his best result with Ferrari since joining from Mercedes.
Despite struggling to match teammate Charles Leclerc`s pace previously, Hamilton believes he made progress in Bahrain.
Hamilton explained that he`s adapting to a different driving style required by the Ferrari, contrasting with his long-time Mercedes approach.
He mentioned adjusting to new settings like engine braking and different brakes, which is gradually becoming clearer to him.
Hamilton noted Leclerc`s consistent setup approach throughout race weekends, while he himself has been further off Leclerc`s pace.
He aims to improve his weekend preparation and setup to perform better, starting with qualifying.
Hamilton believes he now understands how to drive the Ferrari effectively and hopes to apply this knowledge for a stronger weekend.
Vasseur Praises Hamilton`s Recovery
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur praised Hamilton`s recovery after a poor qualifying, noting his race pace was comparable to top drivers.
Vasseur acknowledged Hamilton`s frustration after qualifying due to a mistake, but was pleased with his strong race performance and recovery.
Vasseur highlighted that Hamilton`s race pace was close to Russell and Norris, indicating a solid performance.
He emphasized the importance of qualifying in the competitive F1 field, where small margins can significantly impact grid position.
