Max Holloway often jokes that Las Vegas feels like the ninth Hawaiian island due to the enthusiastic reception he always receives there. However, after his recent arrival in South Korea on Sunday, he might just consider this country the tenth island.
The former UFC featherweight champion was met at the airport by his former opponent, “The Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung, along with hundreds of excited fans eager to see him in person.
Holloway smiled at the energetic reaction from the crowd, who cheered loudly as he stepped off the plane. He is expected to spend some time in South Korea training with “The Korean Zombie” during his visit.
It`s worth noting that Holloway has consistently praised “The Korean Zombie,” both before and after their fight in 2023. This fight marked the final match of Jung`s legendary career.
“This man is a legend,” Holloway declared after their fight. “He’s called Korean Zombie for a reason. He is a myth, a true legend.”
While Jung has retired from professional fighting, he remains active by developing his new Z Fight Night series in South Korea. Meanwhile, Holloway is preparing to move to the lightweight division after indicating his intention to leave the featherweight class following a defeat to Ilia Topuria last October.
The details of Holloway`s next fight are still undetermined, but there are rumors suggesting a potential matchup with Dustin Poirier later this year. Poirier has announced his plans to retire after his next fight, and a third clash with Holloway could be the perfect way for him to conclude his career.
