Professional golfer Max Homa has decided to split with his longtime caddie, Joe Greiner, who has been by his side as his caddie and childhood friend for many years.
The change in caddie personnel became apparent when Homa started the Valero Texas Open on Thursday with veteran caddie Bill Harke carrying his bag.
In a statement released to PGATour.com on Thursday, Homa expressed his gratitude for his partnership with Greiner. He stated, “Joe and I created memories that will last a lifetime, and I am incredibly thankful for all his dedication and hard work.”
Homa continued, “Our professional relationship has come to an end, and it will be difficult to see him leave. I will always cherish the time spent walking the fairways with one of my closest friends.”
Homa, aged 34, experienced a surge in his career later than some, achieving six victories on the PGA Tour between 2019 and 2023. He reached a career-high ranking of No. 5 in the world and secured a third-place finish at the Masters Tournament last year. However, his performance has declined in the past year.
Currently ranked No. 78 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Homa has recently missed the cut in four consecutive tournaments. His best result this year has been a tie for 26th place.
The Valero Texas Open is the final tournament before the Masters Tournament, the first major championship of the season, which begins next week. Homa had a challenging start at the Texas Open, recording a 4-over-par 76 in his opening round on Thursday.
