World No. 51 Maya Joint shared her emotions after securing her spot in the final of the Eastbourne tournament. The Australian advanced by defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the semi-finals with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
“Honestly, if someone had told me at the start of the week that I would reach the final, I simply wouldn`t have believed them (smiling),” Joint commented. “It`s an incredible feeling. I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support me today – your energy means so much.”
When asked about her strong performance on grass this season and the upcoming final:
You`ve been playing very well on grass this season and already have a title from the Rabat tournament. Now you face the final in Eastbourne. What experience will you draw from that previous final to try and win here?
“Hopefully, I`ll be less nervous than in the first final. Rabat gave me confidence, but every final is a new challenge. I`ll try to enjoy the moment,” the Australian stated during her on-court interview.
