Molly McCann Announces Retirement Following UFC London Defeat

Molly McCann`s MMA career concluded at UFC London with a submission loss to Alexia Thainara, who made a strong impression in her debut as a late replacement.

Thainara quickly took the fight to the ground, securing a takedown early in the first round. She then transitioned to McCann`s back and applied a rear-naked choke, forcing McCann to tap out towards the end of the round. Immediately after the fight, Thainara celebrated her victory, while McCann removed her gloves and announced her retirement.

Addressing the London crowd, McCann expressed her gratitude to the UFC management, saying, “UFC, Dana, Hunter, Mick, I love you all. I gave you my heart and soul.”

She continued, acknowledging her performance wasn`t sufficient, stating, “It’s not good enough. The UFC deserves more. I deserve more. You all deserve more. Thank you and good night, UFC.”

McCann retires with a professional record of 14 wins and 8 losses, including a 7-7 record in the UFC. Her teammate Paddy Pimblett was visibly emotional in the audience as she made her announcement.

Thainara`s UFC career began successfully as she dominated McCann early in the fight. Despite McCann`s attempts to defend with elbows from the bottom, Thainara maintained control.

Although McCann briefly defended Thainara`s initial rear-naked choke attempt, Thainara adjusted her position and successfully locked in the submission, leading to McCann`s tap out. This victory marks a new chapter for Thainara in the UFC, while McCann bids farewell to the sport.

In her post-fight interview, Thainara confidently stated, “This is Alexia delivery. The UFC has the best matchmakers. I came, I saw, I delivered.”
