Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal, a winner of 22 Grand Slam singles titles, recently commented on his young compatriot and fellow top player, world number three Carlos Alcaraz.
Speaking about the challenges faced by elite athletes, Nadal shared his perspective:
“All of us have experienced pressure from the media and the expectations placed upon us, but ultimately, I believe we are human and capable of handling it. I don`t think handling this pressure will be a major issue for Carlos. He is a great player, and he has a wonderful family behind him.”
“I think he is doing everything perfectly, and he`s already had an incredible career. He will win a great deal more if he can avoid injuries – that is the most important thing. I wish him well – and I truly believe – that he will have one of the best careers in history.”
Earlier this season, the 21-year-old Alcaraz had to withdraw from his home Masters tournament in Madrid due to an injury, highlighting the importance of Nadal`s point about staying healthy.
