Olympic champion Kyle Snyder releases statement following arrest in prostitution sting

Olympic gold medalist Kyle Snyder has publicly commented for the first time following his arrest on charges of engaging in prostitution. The arrest occurred during a sting operation conducted by Columbus Police last Friday.

Police utilized an online escort advertisement which ultimately led to 16 arrests, including Snyder. He responded to the ad and arranged a meeting at a local Quality Inn and Suites Hotel. Upon arrival, Snyder allegedly offered payment for a sexual act to an undercover officer, resulting in his arrest.

On Wednesday, Snyder took to social media to address the incident.

“I want to thank everyone who has reached out with kindness and support,” Snyder wrote. “My focus is on my relationship with the Lord Jesus and my family. This is not the conclusion of my journey.”

Video footage of the arrest was later released by police, showing Snyder being led away in handcuffs. Police seized $160 in cash from Snyder before formally charging him with engaging in prostitution.

Considered one of the most accomplished wrestlers in American history, Snyder was arrested in Columbus, the city where he competed collegiately and won three National Championships at The Ohio State University.

During his four years at Ohio State, Snyder also made history as the youngest American wrestler to capture an Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Games. He went on to earn a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics but did not medal at the 2024 Paris Games.

Snyder is scheduled to appear in court on May 19 to face the charges.
