Olympic gold medalist wrestler Kyle Snyder was taken into custody by Columbus Police last Friday during a city-wide operation targeting prostitution.
Columbus Police confirmed the details of the arrest on Monday. Local news outlet 10TV was the first to report the incident.
The 29-year-old Snyder was among sixteen men apprehended during the undercover operation aimed at curbing prostitution in Columbus. Authorities posted decoy advertisements online, using responses to facilitate arrests.
Reports indicate Snyder contacted the number listed in the advertisement via call and text message around 8:15 p.m. on Friday, agreeing to meet at a nearby hotel.
Upon arrival, Snyder allegedly exchanged cash with an undercover officer and requested sexual services. He was subsequently arrested for engaging in prostitution and released at the scene.
His court appearance is scheduled for May 19.
Recognized as one of the most decorated wrestlers in recent American history, Snyder made history as the youngest U.S. wrestler to win Olympic gold at the 2016 Rio Games. He earned a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but did not secure a medal at the recent 2024 Paris Games.
Beyond his Olympic achievements, Snyder has claimed seven medals at the World Wrestling Championships and is a three-time NCAA National Champion from his time wrestling at the Ohio State University.
In more recent news, Snyder is set to compete in the newly formed Real American Freestyle wrestling promotion, co-founded by WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan and former WWE executive Eric Bischoff.
