Olympic Gold Medalist Kyle Snyder Plans to Plead Guilty to Lesser Charge Following Arrest

Olympic wrestling champion Kyle Snyder is expected to enter a guilty plea to a reduced charge during a scheduled court appearance on Monday. His appearance follows an arrest made during a prostitution sting operation conducted by police in Columbus, Ohio.

According to Snyder’s attorney, Eric Hoffman, who spoke with local media, the former Ohio State wrestler intends to plead guilty to disorderly conduct, which is classified as a fourth-degree misdemeanor. He was originally facing a charge of engaging in prostitution.

Court records indicate that Snyder has received authorization to appear remotely for his arraignment hearing on Monday morning, either via phone or video conference.

In the state of Ohio, a fourth-degree misdemeanor carries potential penalties of up to 30 days in jail and/or a possible fine up to $250.

Snyder was one of sixteen individuals taken into custody as part of the sting operation aimed at combating prostitution within the city. Police reportedly posted an online escort advertisement, to which Snyder allegedly responded with calls and texts. He is accused of then arriving at a local hotel and propositioning an undercover officer, offering payment for oral sex.

He was subsequently arrested at the scene without incident, formally charged, and released.

The highly decorated athlete, who has competed in the last three Olympic games, securing both a gold and a silver medal, has publicly addressed his arrest for the first time via social media.

“I want to thank everyone who has reached out with kindness and support,” Snyder wrote in his statement. “My focus is on my relationship with the Lord Jesus and my family. This is not the conclusion of my journey.”

Snyder is currently scheduled to compete next on June 14 as part of the Final X series. This event determines the U.S. representatives for the upcoming Wrestling World Championships. Snyder has already secured his spot in the final match, where he is set to face Hayden Zillmer. The winner will advance to the World Championships taking place in Croatia in September.
