Former world No. 33 Paolo Lorenzi has commented on the struggles of top players during the absence of ATP world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Italian player is currently serving a three-month suspension for doping.
Lorenzi stated: “They are unable to find consistency. It`s very tough for the top players. If we exclude Sinner, there isn`t a significant difference between the rest. When they are not in their best shape, they cannot win.”
“Firstly, Alcaraz, who is very unstable. We expect him to take advantage of Sinner`s absence and regain the world No. 1 ranking, but instead, he is facing issues with consistency that he needs to resolve quickly.”
“The same applies to others. Zverev went to South America to earn points, but the conditions there turned out to be challenging.”
“Regarding all the others, I don`t see a huge advantage over their competitors. They have many problems. I expected more from Zverev, Alcaraz, and even Novak Djokovic.”
“Sinner has improved too much compared to the others. To catch up with him, the others are changing their game and improving it. Of course, this takes time. This is what leads to defeats,” Lorenzi said in an interview with SuperTennis TV channel.
