Olympic gold medalist wrestler Kyle Snyder was arrested on May 9 during a prostitution sting operation conducted by Columbus Police in Columbus, Ohio. Bodycam footage obtained by 10TV shows Snyder was cooperative and treated the officers with respect following his detainment.
The footage reveals Snyder being taken into custody as part of an undercover sting that used an online escort advertisement. The operation led to the arrest of 16 individuals in total. Snyder was charged with engaging in prostitution and released from the scene, with a court appearance scheduled for May 19.
Reports indicate the three-time Olympic wrestler was not wearing pants when officers detained him at a local Quality Inn and Suites where the sting took place. Officers assisted him in putting on shorts, mentioning they didn`t want him to have a “walk of shame” down the hotel corridor.
According to a police report, Snyder`s arrest occurred after he allegedly offered an undercover officer $160 cash in exchange for oral sex. The money was subsequently confiscated as evidence.
During the arrest process, Snyder provided his personal details to the police and reportedly asked about the consequences of pleading guilty. Officers informed him that a guilty plea would likely result in a fine and mandatory attendance at “John school,” an educational program for individuals seeking to purchase sex.
News of Snyder`s arrest surfaced shortly after the 29-year-old athlete had signed a contract to compete in the newly formed Real American Freestyle wrestling league, co-founded by WWE Hall of Famers Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff.
Snyder is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished wrestlers in American history. His accolades include two Olympic medals, seven medals from the World Wrestling Championships, and three NCAA National Champion titles earned while competing for Ohio State University.
As of now, Snyder has not issued any public comments regarding his arrest.
