Rare Atmospheric Phenomenon in Spain Blamed for Widespread Blackout

A widespread power grid disruption affecting both Spain and Portugal has been attributed to a `rare atmospheric phenomenon` occurring within Spanish territory, according to Reuters, which cited the Portuguese grid operator Ren.

Sources indicate that extreme temperature fluctuations in inland regions of Spain were the underlying cause. Full restoration of the Portuguese network`s operation could take up to a week.

Major cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, and Lisbon were among those impacted by the extensive power cut. Essential services including transport, internet access, and water pumps were disrupted.

At the clay court tennis tournament in Madrid, the power outage disabled the electronic line-calling and scoring systems. Tournament organizers announced that all matches scheduled in Madrid have been postponed.
