Roland Garros tournament director, Amélie Mauresmo, has publicly supported ongoing discussions regarding prize money at Grand Slam tournaments.
Her comments follow a recent joint letter sent by representatives from the men`s (ATP) and women`s (WTA) tennis associations to the Grand Slam organizers, requesting an increase in prize funds.
Speaking at a press conference after the conclusion of the tournament, Mauresmo shared her perspective:
I am very happy that a direct dialogue has finally begun. I say this as a former player. There are no intermediaries here who might have their own interests that differ from the interests of the players themselves.
I believe that when there is open communication, everything can develop in the right direction for all parties involved. When the real figures are announced, I am confident the process will move in the desired direction.
The main goal is for everything to move in the right direction and for it to benefit everyone.
