World No. 8 Andrey Rublev shared his thoughts on the fact that several high-profile players have been eliminated from the Madrid Masters tournament.
Notable exits include Carlos Alcaraz, who withdrew before the second round due to injury, and Novak Djokovic, who lost at the same stage to Matteo Arnaldi. Rublev himself was unable to defend his title, having been defeated by Alexander Bublik.
When asked during a press conference if the departure of top seeds means there will be an unusual champion at this Masters event, the Russian player responded:
We`ll see. There are still many strong players left, many good names. It`s too early to say anything yet.
Rublev indicated that despite the early upsets among the top contenders, the field remains highly competitive.
