Svetlana Zhurova, a State Duma deputy and Olympic speed skating champion, has commented on Daria Kasatkina`s change of sports citizenship. The 27-year-old tennis player will now compete for Australia.
Zhurova stated, “This person was not raised in Russia, so what did we expect from her? Our education system and values did not influence her. She grew up in different realities, so it would be strange to expect Daria to be a patriot of Russia. She may or may not regret her decision. We know that it is due to her views on life, which are not shared in Russia and will not be even in 100 years. The more aggressive we are towards her, the more she will be convinced that she made the right choice. I would not give in to emotions; if she wants to change citizenship, let her. It is her human right.”
