World No. 14 Elina Svitolina recently explained why her husband, fellow tennis player Gael Monfils, did not immediately congratulate her on Mother`s Day when it occurred on May 11th.
The couple shares a daughter named Skai.
Svitolina clarified that the difference was due to varying dates for the holiday internationally. She quoted Monfils as saying: “`In different countries, the holiday falls on different days. So Gael said: `Why are you celebrating? In France, it`s in two weeks. I`ll give you a gift later.“”
Despite the specific date, Svitolina believes mothers deserve daily recognition. “All moms do really hard work,” she stated, reflecting on her own experience. “I`m currently on a break because Gael is home with Skai, and I am a working mom.”
