UFC 316 Medical Suspensions: Julianna Peña Faces Indefinite Layoff

Following her submission defeat to Kayla Harrison in the co-main event of UFC 316 last Saturday night, Julianna Peña requires medical clearance for potential injuries before she is permitted to compete again.

This information comes directly from the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, which released the official list of medical suspensions for fighters who competed at the event held in Newark. Peña`s name is at the top of the list of athletes facing mandated time off.

Peña`s fight concluded in the second round when Harrison secured a tight kimura submission, forcing the former champion to tap out. As a result of this bout, the commission has placed Peña on an indefinite medical suspension. She must receive clearance from an orthopedist regarding both her left elbow and left shoulder before she can be cleared for future competition.

The loss meant Peña relinquished the women`s bantamweight title and dropped her record to 3 wins and 3 losses in her last six bouts.

Several other fighters from the card also received suspensions, ranging from mandatory rest periods to indefinite sidelines pending medical evaluations:
