UFC 317 Fighter Cut After Missing Weight by 10 Pounds

Middleweight Christopher Ewert`s tenure with the UFC was remarkably brief, concluding in less than a week.

The undefeated fighter was brought in on very short notice as a substitute for Sedriques Dumas to face Jackson McVey in the opening preliminary bout at UFC 317 in Las Vegas on Saturday. However, the planned fight between Ewert and McVey was called off just as Friday`s weigh-ins commenced, reportedly due to difficulties Ewert encountered while cutting weight.

During the UFC`s official weigh-in broadcast, it was announced that Ewert registered 10 pounds over the required limit for the middleweight division. Following this weigh-in failure, he has been subsequently released from the promotion.

Despite the cancellation of his opponent`s bout, Jackson McVey still participated in the official UFC 317 weigh-ins, successfully making weight at 185 pounds. Officials have indicated they are actively seeking to schedule a new fight for McVey in the near future.

The UFC 317 event scheduled for Saturday at T-Mobile Arena is set to proceed with a total of 11 fights. The main event features a clash between former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title. In the co-main event, Alexandre Pantoja will defend his flyweight championship for the fourth time against challenger Kai Kara-France.
