Giga Chikadze faced an early challenge ahead of his planned return fight at UFC Kansas City, missing weight.
The featherweight contender weighed in at 147 pounds on Friday, exceeding the 146-pound non-title limit (which includes a one-pound allowance) by one pound. His opponent, David Onama, successfully made weight at 146 pounds.
Officials confirmed the fight will still proceed as a catchweight bout, with Chikadze forfeiting 20 percent of his purse as a penalty.
Most of the featured bouts on the card saw smooth weigh-ins. Welterweight headliners Ian Machado Garry (171) and Carlos Prates (170) both successfully made weight. Garry, ranked No. 6 in the division, looks to rebound from his recent loss, while Prates enters on a four-fight knockout streak to start his UFC career.
In the co-main event, veteran Anthony Smith (206) successfully made weight. He faces light heavyweight Zhang Mingyang (206), who also made weight.
