Virtus Bologna Secures EuroLeague’s Reigning Scoring Champion, Carsen Edwards

In a swift and decisive move, Virtus Bologna has landed a major talent, announcing the signing of guard Carsen Edwards. The 27-year-old arrives in Italy after a standout season with Bayern Munich, where he established himself as the EuroLeague`s most prolific scorer.

This signing marks the successful conclusion of a pursuit that, rather ironically, seemed destined to happen last year before falling through. Now, the deal is officially complete, bringing one of European basketball`s most dynamic offensive players to Virtus`s roster.

Edwards` credentials speak for themselves. Over the past three seasons, he has consistently ranked among the top players in the EuroLeague, featuring for Fenerbahce before his two seasons with Bayern Munich. With the German powerhouse, he secured two national championship titles. His performance in the most recent EuroLeague campaign was exceptional, leading the league with an average of 20.4 points per game and adding nearly 4 assists, earning him a well-deserved spot on the All-EuroLeague First Team.

Player Profile: An Explosive Scorer with More

Edwards is known for bringing a combination of scoring punch, energy, and defensive tenacity to the court. His ability to change the game quickly was vividly demonstrated last April. In a game against Maccabi Tel Aviv, despite Bayern`s eventual loss, Edwards rewrote the competition`s record book in a single quarter. In the third period, he unleashed a staggering 26 points, including 8 three-pointers, in just 10 minutes – a feat that set a new all-time record for points scored by a single player in an EuroLeague quarter. It`s the kind of performance that makes scouting reports suddenly read like cautionary tales.

Hailing from Houston and standing at 185 cm, Edwards took a brief detour through the NBA after being selected 33rd overall in the 2019 Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and subsequently traded to the Boston Celtics. However, it was his collegiate career at Purdue University where he truly became a household name among basketball aficionados.

During the 2019 NCAA Tournament, Edwards delivered a series of legendary performances. He dropped 42 points against Villanova and then another 42 points against Virginia, hitting 10 three-pointers in the latter game, just shy of the tournament`s single-game record. He finished that NCAA run with an incredible 28 three-pointers across just four games, shattering the previous record which had been set over six games. It was a scoring clinic that remains etched in college basketball history.

For Virtus Bologna, the acquisition of Carsen Edwards represents a significant strengthening of their squad. His proven ability to consistently score against elite competition, combined with his energy and past championship experience, makes him a crucial addition as Virtus aims to build an increasingly competitive roster for upcoming domestic and European campaigns.
