World No. 63 Belgian Zizou Bergs spoke to World No. 55 Canadian Gabriel Diallo following their encounter in the final of the ATP 250 grass court tournament in `s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. The match concluded with Diallo winning 7-5, 7-6(8).
Addressing Diallo on court, Bergs said, “Gabriel, man, why today? Why are you playing so well? Congratulations. You`re a great guy. Everyone should know you`re cool. But also your team. I love your team, we spent the last years together, we trained together, and soon we`ll play doubles together at Wimbledon. So I`m happy for you guys.”
This victory marks 23-year-old Diallo`s first career ATP Tour-level trophy. As of June 16th, the Canadian is set to debut in the Top 50, reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 44.
Diallo expressed his emotions in his own on-court interview: “Guys, I have no words. This is what you dream about your whole life since childhood. The fact that I was able to do this here after losing the final last year means a lot to me. I am incredibly happy not just for myself, but for my whole team.”
